IMMEDIATE FAMILY

Immediate Family, at the Blumenthal Arts, is a comedy-drama about a Black family whose reunion is disrupted when the son, Jesse, brings his white boyfriend home.

Directed by Phylicia Rashad, the play uses humor and references to Black culture to explore universal themes of sibling rivalry, family secrets, and the complexities of race and sexuality, reminiscent of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner meets Modern Family. The tightly written script by Paul Oakley Stovall and authentic portrayals by the all-Black cast create a heartfelt and thought-provoking experience for the audience.
